| The Diamond Edge Gourmet Electric or Manual Knife and Scissors Sharpener is the first electric sharpener of its kind to offer the flexibility of both electric and manual sharpening together in one household product. With this one product you can easily sharpen extremely dull blades, maintain razor sharp edges on both straight and serrated blades, and sharpen most household scissors. The unit’s unique features include: interlocking diamond abrasive wheels for fast and precise sharpening of both sides of your blade at the same time, and a manual finishing slot for polishing a freshly ground edge or for sharpening serrated blades. This sharpener guarantees factory edge results every time no matter your blade type or edge condition. |

Factory Sharp Edge

| My electric sharpener from Smith’s works great. It sharpens both sides of the knife at the same time, so the edge is centered correctly. Also, the circular sharpening wheels create a “hollow ground” edge that’s extra sharp – it’s like the edge put on knives at the factories of top knife companies. I could not be more pleased. |

| This machine does what it says: It produces a true hollow ground blade. My Henckles knives have never been sharper. |
Best Knife Sharpener

| This knoife sharpener does an excellent job on knives and scissors. It is very easy to use. It is expensive but it does a professional job and I won’t have to take my knives and scissors to someone else to sharpen. |
It Sharpens for a Price

| This sharpener handled knife sharpening just fine, but I’m not sure it did a $119 job of knife sharpening.
The scissors sharpener is a piece of ceramic held at an angle in a plastic holder, just like the $6.00 scissor sharpeners that are so easily available; there is nothing electric about it. To sharpen scissors, you just pretend you are trying to cut the piece of ceramic and it sharpens as the scissor blades move against the ceramic rod.
I would think that the less expensive $39 Smith sharpener along with a separate $6 scissor sharpener would do just as good a job for a more reasonable price. |

You Cannot Always Rely on Electric Knife Sharpeners
With the prevalence of electric knife sharpeners on the market making things easier for you, it makes sense that you might think that sharpening knives by hand is a relic of a bygone era. But when you think of the fact that you will sometimes be in certain areas and situations – such as a camping of fishing trip – that do not lend themselves well to lugging an electric knife sharpener around, you will realize that the old fashioned way of manually sharpening knives is still a skill that you should learn.

So many times, it just is not feasible to take your battery powered, electric knife sharpener with you. There is no way you will be able to bring your electric knife sharpener on a camping trip in the wilderness. Similarly, if you are out on a boat in deep water and need a razor sharp knife, it is not a good idea bring one. In these cases, you will need to sharpen the knife yourself, with your own tools. So, if you are out in the woods and you need your edge to be sharp, whip out a sharpening stone and get busy. It may be archaic, but using this ancient method of knife sharpening is still the best way to get your blade razor sharp.
Knife sharpening is not like performing something as complex as neurosurgery. It simply is not very difficult to perform. And while it is simplistic, it still takes proper instruction to perform correctly. But once you learn, it is like riding a bike and you will never have to rely on electric sharpeners again. And since you do not need to rely on having access to electricity, you can perform this skill anywhere you are.

Wow, lots of questions! That's great you're interested in going vegan.
I really recommend this essay on veganism:
(It argues that we shouldn't focus so much on marginal ingredients, and should instead use the question "Which choice leads to less suffering?" as our guide.)
Non-animal tested products — vegans do try to avoid (within reason) products that involve animal suffering. Many vegans find it reasonable to use cruelty-free cosmetics and household products, but not within reason to endanger one's health by refusing animal-tested medicines. Everyone has to decide where to draw the line, though…
It's fine to eat things [...]
yeesh! Sorry, did not mean to make a bad recommendation. I have never personally used it or any lube for that matter, but I had heard that this is a commonly used household product. I apologize for not doing my research and suggesting it to someone else. Hope no harm was done
