Parenting Tips Setting An Example

Children learn to imitate other people from a very young age. It’s how they find out how to behave, look after for themselves, develop new skills, and connect with others. From their earliest moments they observe you closely and pattern their own actions and convictions after yours. Your examples become permanent images, which will set their perspectives and behaviors for the rest of their life.

It’s key to be responsible, logical and loving with your child. And this also applies to the relationship you have with your partner, your parents, and other family members and friends that are also a part of your daughter or son’s life. Declare to mistakes when you make them, and communicate openly and honestly with all family members.

It’s also key to take good care of yourself. When we’re giving your attention to what’s best for our child it’s natural to neglect our own needs. Your child and your family are depending on you both emotionally and physically, so it’s essential that you teach your child by example that taking good care of yourself aids you tolook after them and everyone else in your family. This demonstrates to your child that not only do you love them and the rest of the family, but you love yourself too. This is a key move in teaching your child about self worth. This can entail getting a sitter and treating yourself to say a movie and dinner out, or participating in some favorite pastime on your own. This teaches your child that you are not only their parent, but a your own person with your interests and needs. It gives them an occasion to show you how well they can do when you are not there for a while.

It’s also critical to nurture your relationship with your partner. Let your child see you communicate in a positive and healthy manner with one another, and demonstrate love and affection for one another so your child can start to appreciate from an early age what a healthy marriage should be like.

You’ll soon discover your child mirroring many of their actions after your own. Be sure that what you say and do around your child will help establish a strong feeling of security and self worth.

This is true. In fact, if you have a family member who is in trouble with the Law and gives a DNA sample, and then you commit a crime leaving DNA, in the UK, the DNA will hit a match or incredibly close . The UK will then investigate the family members of the original DNA donor. They are trying to get this passed in the US as well. It works quite well.

I like what you had to say about people still having a desire for “official news.” Last night for another class I had to compare a TV news segment to online news – the TV news covered so many human interest stories it was really ridiculous. Sometimes those kind of stories are entertaining but I also hope that the “official news” won't be overshadowed by entertainment.

    Hi Amy,

Just got caught up with your blog. I had surgery and was i the hospital a few days. Erin has been home taking good care of me.
I so enjoy looking at the photos you've taken. The children are so beautiful. It must be hard to keep boundaries and not want to adopt them.
    Have you done any meditating?
That is wild about your roomate being from Osterville. Amazing or what!
Hope this finds you feeling better.
    Love,
    Linda

Well said, Lane. There has been much interesting discussion across the interwebs of late concerning this very topic, with giants such as Kotaku and Penny Arcade weighing in with impassioned points and opinions.I think you might have taken the cake, though.

It's true, though: the reason gamers so badly want their favorite pastime to be recognized as art is simply because… well, it's their favorite pastime. They're tired of seeing it receive less recognition than mediums such as film and music, and they're tired of seeing the mainstream media continue to represent videogames as child's play, vehicles of moral corruption, [...]
