Window Washing

Among the interesting jobs I have had over the years is window cleaning. I was a bartender while I attended college and I tended bar during my summer breaks as well. The bartending job left my days free, which I liked, but I wanted to make a little extra money fast without getting a traditional job that would interfere with my bartending schedule. I chose window cleaning…

I visited some of the shops in the small town I was living in at the time and I was surprised that three businesses took to the idea of my washing windows for them right away. I set a loose schedule that worked around my bartending hours but still left a lot of free time for me as well.

The beautiful thing about window washing is that it is quick; it is easy and window washing supplies are very cheap. I quickly discovered that the most valuable of the window washing supplies is the squeegee. This tool is wonderful for window cleaning because it leaves virtually no streaks and it leaves no dust or residue. I did use a paper towel, but only for touch-ups.

The other window cleaning supplies included water, soap and a very cheap glass cleaner. I found that I rarely needed to use the glass cleaner if I was doing the window washing properly. The window cleaning supplies cost about ten dollars and the investment paid off in about ten minutes.

Most of the stores that I did window washing for had only two or three relatively large windows and a door. The glass on the doors was a little more challenging because people frequently touched the glass. When I started my window washing adventure, I started with washing the door first, but I quickly learned that this was simply a bad idea. By the time I was finished with my window washing, the door had prints and some marks. I made sure to complete each window washing job by shining the glass on the door.

Back when I was in college, fifteen dollars went much further than it does today and each window washing job averaged about fifteen dollars. I charged five dollars per window and five dollars for each door as well. I also shined the hardware on the doors and windows too when I washed windows. The store owners liked the little extra touch and it was almost effortless for me to do.

Sometimes I actually miss window washing. There is a great feeling of accomplishment in seeing the perfectly clear glass. One of the store owners said that I made the glass disappear after one of my window washing treatments. Now all of my window washing is done in my home. Occasionally, I step back and admire my efforts and think back on the distant window washing days.

I grab a pocket program first thing, and make a loose list of things I’m interested in, and form it into a loose schedule. Aside from that, I mostly wander and stumble on awesome stuff.

I know that you may think of this suggestion as a traditional job I was going to recommend becoming a teacher – science or math education. You could easily become a teacher and certified by completing your 4 yr degree. I suggest that because it is a way for you to get involved with math or science. You could still get involved with scientific research through volunteer work. Earthwatch, a non-profit organization, would be a good way to do that and you could even involve a group a high school students. It's just a thought.

Another thought would be something [...]

Domestic Glass cleaner is bang on.

It has to be one containing ammonia-D. what you will want to do is with an eye dropper place 1-2 drops on the ink port in the printer. Wait about 10-20 minutes install the cartridge and run a couple cleanings. Print heads are heat sensitive, I would strongly discourage the use of HOT water on any printer with an integrated print head.

There is always the method of running multiple print head cleanings. On any brother printer you just have to hit the INK button and scroll through the options until you hit clean [...]

Finally, since F trains in Brooklyn carry well below capacity loads, there is simply no chance that NYCT will increase service on the line for the purpose of running an express. That means that the only way an express will run is if some existing F’s are sent up the express track. That seems like a very bad idea to me, since the stations south of Church are lightly used while there are some very busy local stations closer to Manhattan that would lose service. I don’t understand where the obsession with express service here comes from, but it really [...]

My dad and step mom decided because they had a small wedding, that they (2 years later) were going to redo their vows in front of the entire city. I don't remember what I was doing before, but I was the maid of honour and was going to be late. This was all taking place in my school gym. I ran through the doors and ran up onto the stage before I realized I was wearing sweat pants for this fancy wedding. So I still got up on stage, then my mom interrupted the entire thing to tell me my [...]

The name of your business depends on what you are trying to sell the customer… Yes, I know… window cleaning service…

However, you are also trying to sell something beyond just window cleaning, right? (a feeling)…. something that is different from your competitors…

For example the company "24 Hour Fitness"… is all about convenience (attain healthy goals conveniently).

So what are you underlying selling? An window cleaning service… but remember everything is marketing and marketing is everything when it comes to running a business

As a result of your business name, are you going to wear with goofy monkey images [...]
