it would make more sense to have a meat selection and a vegetarian selection because that is about dietary needs and not picky people

The smart card is used for the DRM (Digital Rights Management) software on the cable box to decrypt and control what you have access to watch and what you don't. The keys for decrypting programs are stored on the card.

Comcast doesn't use these cards however because they use downloadable keys that are retrieved from the network.

Motorola makes the cable boxes for many different cable providers which is why you see the slot even though Comcast doesn't use it.

I think that either student spending habits or team loyalty among football fans could be good topics. You will need to narrow the focus a bit though. For example, you could write about how loyalty to a particular team affects a community, or how having a popular football team affects a university. The spending habits topic could be really interesting too. You could write about students and brand loyalty, the difference in spending habits between different types of students, etc… Good work.
