Small Fishing Boats – Mini Pontoons Or Inflatable Kayaks
When it comes to small fishing boats, there are two choices in my estimation. There is the mini pontoon boat and the inflatable kayak. Both of these small fishing boats have there good and bad points, and in this article those points will be outlined. With this information you will be able to make a more informed decision as to which of these small fishing boats will be best for you.
Both of the small fishing boats listed below are of the inflatable variety. Inflatable boats are much easier to transport than “traditional” boats, as well as being much less expensive. This doesn’t mean, however that inflatable boats are any less reliable or functional than their “traditional” cousins. The key factor when it comes to inflatable boats is the manufacturer of said boat.
You always want to make sure that any inflatable boat you purchase is purchased from a quality manufacturer. So, how do you know that you’re dealing with a quality manufacturer and thus a quality small fishing boat? A manufacturer who produces quality products stands behind those products with money back guarantees and free trial periods. These are the types of things to look for when purchasing any inflatable boat.
The bottom line is, if you purchase from a quality manufacturer, you will get a quality inflatable boat, and that boat will last for many, many years. Now, for the two types of small fishing boats that work best as small boats:
- Inflatable Kayaks – Inflatable kayaks are exactly what you think they are, but there are various varieties, some of which are very conducive to fishing. The manufacturer Sea Eagle makes an inflatable kayak version called a “Paddleski”, which is an excellent option when it comes to small fishing boats. “Regular” inflatable kayaks are also very good fishing boat options. These boats are very maneuverable and are especially useful for river fishing. I personally use my inflatable kayak for trout and smallmouth bass fishing in small to medium sized rivers
- Mini Pontoons – Mini Pontoon boats are great fishing boats and are especially useful when fishing in lakes and ponds. These boats consist of a pair of inflatable pontoons and the angler sits either on or in between the pontoons. The more comfortable version has a platform on top of the inflatable pontoons with seats attached. These boats are also very maneuverable and quite nice to fish from. Mini pontoon boats make otherwise inaccessible water fishable.
Either of these fishing boats makes a wonderful choice for the cost conscious angler. And remember, just because these boats are less expensive than traditional boats doesn’t mean that they are any less effective than traditional boats. In fact the convenience and portability make both of these small fishing boats more effective for fishermen.

I’m a very experienced and fit wader…but the stupid Simms boots could barely navigate grapefruit sized cobbles at shin depth. Every Single Step was a stumbling sliding adventure. Exhausting, scary, time wasting. Studs and inflatable boats do not go together, another complication. I guess I hope there are some better rubber soles ones, but I don’t want to spend a hundred bucks, and maybe my neck, finding out.
Shouldn't be the American people be saying that to the big O and congress who passed the non-stimulus, stimulus slush fund – "We want our money back!"
Bert, they are trying to come up with valid, well documented answers. It is obvious to many that anything else is speculation. Example: when margarine was invented, they claimed it was better for you than butter. The dairy industry had two choices, dispute it while testing or be quiet while testing. They decided it was better to keep quiet. Now it is known that no hard fat is good for you and if you want to split hairs, butter is less bad. *Scientists* like to be quiet until they know, the others just want attention.
My friends and I were on a pontoon boat once with some bottles of wine. We didnt have a cork screw, so we used the anchor to push the cork down into the bottle…it worked, and we did not shatter any glass!
