Novelty Contact Lenses

While novelty contacts are designed for fun, they are still medical devices, and they require a prescription. Like all contact lenses, they can cause eye infections if not fitted correctly or cared for properly. You must see an eye care professional to have them fitted and prescribed, even if your eyes don’t need a prescriptive correction (that is, you don’t usually wear eyeglasses or contact lenses)
One of the most popular designs for novelty contact is the cat eye. The basic reason and the effect of this type of lens is to give a special cat like look. Usually this type of lens have a yellow and green color just like a cat. The result is awesome, many a times people give a double glance to a wearer before they come to know that the person is wearing a lens…

Another good option is the Black out or white out lens. Both these lenses are fun. The black out lens when worn gives a complete black color and gives a completely dilated pupil since it blacks out your iris, making it look like a giant pupil. But sometimes it gives a bad impression to a person opposite to you as such phenomenon is found only if a person is taking some kind of illicit drugs. While the white out lens when worn will completely cover up the iris and they make your iris look white, which is shocking because no one generally has that kind of colored eyes.

A wide range of other designs can be found for novelty lenses. You get circuit board contacts that give you a robotic look which can be fun in special occasions like a science fiction or Halloween parties. Then you have dotted contacts or a floral lens with designs of flowers, you even get smiley faced contact lens to make a immediate visual impact. These lenses can be worn on a daily or occasional basis. These lenses do not require any prescription for to buy and use. Colored lenses can be found in various colors like green, blue, brown, or in hazels like purple and honey colored.

Keep in mind that novelty contacts aren’t appropriate for some employers or social occasions, as the more extreme designs tend to unnerve or disturb some people. However, they make for excellent conversation pieces, and the more natural lenses are great for everyday use regardless of the situation or occasion.

Jason – what a great blog site. You have such good info about eye care that everyone will benefit from. As a former patient you impressed me my first appointment with your professional, caring patient contact. I knew I was in good hands as you thoroughly explained what was happening and gave me the opportunity to ask questions. You really do practice what you preach and are a true assest to the world of optometry. My only complaint is I'm in Kingwood (Texas) and your in Keene (NH) Boo-oooo. See you!!!!

Thanks for the quick response! Best of luck with your work overseas. I am hoping that you can still do a few vids here and there while gone. I have to thank you for bringing me back into the world of fragrances. Up until 2 weeks ago I know what patchouli was and no idea how colognes have changed since I was in school. been only using Escape since 93, and only on special occasions. You and the other reviewers have opened my eyes. Thanks again. -Pete (ApolloEDC)
