Auto Security Systems Not The Only Way To Prevent Theft

When it comes to making your vehicle theft proof there are several ways to keep your property safe. While nearly all antitheft devices claim to work better than others, vehicle security devices are just one way to protect your automobile. Surprisingly, auto security systems are just part of the answer.

The most popular and successful way to prevent auto theft is to use common sense. First of all, always remove your keys from the vehicle and refrain from using hide-a-key devices. Secondly, you should always roll up your windows and lock your car doors. Lastly, make sure you park your vehicle in a safe, well-lit area. If you make it difficult for the thief, they will be much more likely to pass the vehicle by.

Auto security systems can also be an excellent theft deterrent. And, contrary to what the auto security systems makers will tell you, it may not matter which one you use. If you choose to go this route for theft protection, it is important that you find a security system that is a good fit for you. It has to be a security system you will actually use consistently.

There are many devices on the market that help you recover or trace your car after has been stolen, but GPS tracking devices can work as a deterrent as well. Often, less experienced thieves will shy away from stealing vehicles with GPS devices, so make sure it’s very obvious to potential thieves that your automobile is armed with a tracking device.

Another way to deter potential thieves is to have the VIN number etched into the glass, as this can aid in the tracking of stolen vehicles. When a thief sees the numbers etched in the glass they are much more likely to skip your car and move on.

Some cars are more likely than others to be stolen. There are several magazines that provide listings of the most commonly stolen vehicles. When looking for a new car, it may be wise to check these lists and try to avoid any vehicle that has found its way on to the list. These cars, whether they have a security system or not, seem to be more attractive to thieves.

Car owners wishing to protect their cars from theft should follow many simple common sense tips. Locking doors and securing windows, as well as removing the keys from the car are important, as is parking in a safe well-lit area. Although these steps are most useful, many auto security systems are good antitheft devices. These vehicle security devices are all useful in preventing theft. Devices which use GPS tracking to assist the police in recovering the car in the event that it is stolen are especially beneficial. Another useful technique is to etch the VIN number into the windshield glass. Owners can do many things to protect the safety of their cars.

Kamloops RCMP is urging people to use common sense during the BC Day long weekend, which is typically one of the busiest periods of the summer.

Anyway, back to the discussion of cars…America doesn’t manufacture anything these days as it is. And what vehicles we do manufacture, do not hold a candle to vehicles manufactured elsewhere. I own a BMW and love the fact that while some may consider it a status symbol, I actually bought it for the engineering that went into it. (And 10 years on and 188K miles, it still get 32mpg highway, which I appreciate because I live in what could only be considered rural America) Ford, the only American automobile company to come through the recession relatively unscathed, still makes cars [...]

You said [the tea party is lending legitimacy to those views) I believe it is the other way around. Those views are lending legitimacy to the tea party. The tea party is not extreme they are filled full of nothing but common sense. The Republicans and the Democrats are the extreme. They have ruined our country with their deficit spending etc. etc. etc.. The tea party is common sense, not the extreme.

If your asking so that you can track your own car from home/online there are a vast # of companies that offer the service. You have to buy their product, install it and pay a monthly charge for a limited amount of look-ups (ie. Where's my car/gps device). The easiest way to do it is to go to a search engine, for example Yahoo, and search GPS Tracking. You'll have to choose your own company to go with. In my opinion, (and this is based off actual recovery of vehicles with the system) GPS is better then Lojack. Lojack runs [...]
