Your Career
When you hear people talk about the gap year, which is the growing practice of students taking a year off between high school and their next stage of education, the general attitude now tends to be positive. Universities themselves are starting to recognize the practice as potentially valuable, and allowing young people the time off, even if they’ve been accepted into a program already. But even so, students ought to think carefully, especially about whether this break will positively or negatively affect their future career opportunities.
One of the things that could raise eyebrows is the fact that the graduate will have gaps in their resume as well as in their stream of education. Or they may want to go to a school that would require them to apply all over again if they skip the year for which they’ve been accepted. Later attendance in their chosen program may not always be automatic if they change plans after this acceptance. These alterations could affect the direction their career plans will take, if they end up having to choose a different school, or even risk not being accepted a second time into the same school. And some people simply regard the gap year as a “lost” year, no matter what experiences the young people gain.
These may prove to be unwarranted fears, however. More than a few ivory towers of education already take the gap year into account when admitting students. And when employers look over young people’s resumes, they are usually much more interested in how they’re qualified to do the job, than in whether they took a break before acquiring their degree. In fact, if the person’s qualifications are good, having that extra breadth of experience may increase their career possibilities.
All of this means that a student simply needs to think and plan carefully before taking the year off. If their gap year work can be made to relate to their actual field of study, then they are likely to have even more qualifications than someone who has the academic credentials but has not managed to acquire any hands-on experience. The young person may actually increase their chances of a successful career by having taken this year away from school.

It is Biblical
Ivory tower
Meaning
A state of sheltered and unworldly intellectual isolation.
Origin
The first mention of ivory towers is in the Bible, Song of Solomon 7:4 (King James Version):
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
That biblical allusion is to the notion of ivory towers as symbols of virginal purity.
The contemporary figurative meaning is of a place of unworldly isolation. This may be in allusion to the famous Hawksmoor Towers [...]
Yep. It’s okay to humiliate anyone who is allegedly an adult but can’t display enough responsibility to maintain their own health. Or household. Or financial stability. Or career plans. May not be your rule, but it’s mine. A lot of people need a good kick in the ass, or as some folks call it “tough love”. A lot of people are in denial about the things in their life that they’d rather change, if they’d just fucking pay some attention.
Need to ask who or what kind of “small traders” are affected. If you mean food and beverage people, small bizness, these protesters still need foods and drinks. Shopkeepers may close out of unwarranted fears. Unless of course they have a one-track mind, which by now should have been dispelled. The protests have been largely peaceful. Of course, the MIB are the ones who plant these fears.
The authorities will always feed on these unwarranted fears. But isn't what these protests are all about? These traders or biznesses should be more than wide-eyed!

Don’t become entrapped in the ivory towers of academia, revolutions and change happen in the streets, not in lush university offices.
