The system of education that offers massive amounts of it for free? The one that gladly offers your children the ability to learn all maths into Calculus, how to read ever single word in the dictionary, history (for better or worse) around the world. The one that offers libraries for every single person, citizen or not, young and old, public records that are open for your inspection at any time (limited by office hours, but still). Yes, our education system is completely stopping us.
For example, I’d ask “What has got you interested in going back to school?” They might respond “I want to increase my qualifications for promotion at work.” I’d reply “Oh, many of our students pursue online classes for exactly the same reason. Where do you work?”
From my experiences there is no software or chatrooms.
In both of the online classes I took it was the exact same material that was taught in class but straight out of the book. You read the book and learn on your own. There is no discussion. All interaction (if any) is done with the teacher via e-mail. probably get some of calendar with all the due dates on it.
For example, my geography class was an online quiz once a week which was basically 10 questions in 20 minutes.
