Most people send their children into the public schooling system, because that is what is available, or that they have no choice in the matter. However, irrespective of the fact that they have no choice, parents should still be concerned about the quality of the education that their children receive. One way or another you pay for your children’s education, be it through taxes or through fees, so you should be concerned about whether your child’s education is value for money and whether the quality of the education provided is good enough.

Many people believe that one of the biggest benefits of the public school system is that your children learn their social skills there. This may be true. But is your child taught social skills or do they pick them up from watching others? I suspect that the latter is probably true. And if they are learning social grace from their peers, or are they learning correctly? One thing for sure is that you have little control over this, because most schools do not teach social skill in an ordered fashion. One thing that can be said for homeschooling is that you have complete control over a child’s social environment.

Any parent will tell you that all children are different. They learn at different speeds and have different aptitudes and skills. One child may be strong and quick at logic, but struggle with arts. A sibling could be exactly the opposite. Do public schools gear the education that your child receives towards the individual? Helping them more with subjects that they struggle with yet letting them excel at those they are comfortable with? In classes of around 30 children it is very hard to tailor lessons to fit individuals. Homeschooling is much more flexible because you have complete control over the lessons.
Public school education is geared towards success in exams. It has to be because that is how success is measured. But how much of what a child learns in the public school system actually helps them when they emerge into the real world? The answer is often very little. When you home school, you can broaden the depth of learning that a child receives and weave their learning with practical lessons that will actually benefit them when they leave home.

A quick google for on science writing yields. I think importantly, you could still work your way into this field. Perhaps try some community college courses or some freelance work to build a portfolio. Alternatively you can MAKE yourself a job in science writing, start a blog or what ever. Also, I do not know what state you are in. But many states have alternative education programs that can certify you to to teach at the K-12 level. I think that classrooms for autistic children can be effective. The more intervention a child can get the more progress they can make. I have worked in an autistic classroom with 1 teacher and 3 well trained teacher assistants, and I feel we helped the students increase their abilities and meet many goals.
